The Office of Student Activities exists to foster the development of students through promoting active involvement in campus activities. The office serves as a resource center for all campus organizations and programming boards.
PROGRAMS:
Leadership Connection:
In early September of each academic year, office staff produce a workshop
designed for organization leaders. The interactive workshop covers information
essential to the success of managing an organization. The office will offer
other training opportunities throughout a given school year as the need arises.
Any member of a group may approach the office with training needs.
Leader Assemblies: The
office staff will periodically call a meeting of organization leaders to discuss
topics of mutual concern. These meetings provide opportunity for groups to
network, share ideas and concerns and receive feedback. The one to one
interaction creates a healthy environment for discussion. Advisor
Assemblies: These gatherings serve the same
purpose as the Leader Assemblies. The target group consists of student
organization advisors.
Activities Fair: Each year the office
serves as the coordinating entity for the fall Activities Fair. The
Activities Fair
provides opportunities for student groups to publicly showcase their group and
recruit members. The Activities Fair also creates a social opportunity for the student
body. Resource Center: A resource center containing books, pamphlets, etc. that refers to organization management, leadership and personal development topics may be found in the Student Services Center located in the Trojan Center. All students are welcome to access information from the Resource Center. Please reference the section entitled Resource Center on the table of contents page for a complete listing of materials currently available. Treasurer Training: The staff provides training that teaches fiscal officers reporting processes, how to access and read monthly statements, planning processes and University funds account policies and procedures.
SERVICES: Master Calendar: The calendar may be found on the DSU Web Site, click on the tab titled "calendar." The calendar displays 12 months of scheduled event information.
Scheduling:
The Student Services Center staff schedule all facilities within the Trojan Center
and the Brinker Conference room in Heston Hall. Student Organizations are
encouraged to use rooms in the Trojan Center for club meetings and events.
List of Organizations:
A listing of all recognized student groups on campus is maintained in the
Office of Student Activities.
Information includes: name of the club, names of club officers, officers e-mail
addresses and the name of the advisor. This list is available to any campus
entity.
Constitutions: The
Office of Student Activities maintains
the most current copy of each organization’s constitution. Any organization
member may request a copy of a constitution or stop in and look at a file.
New Organizations: Groups of students
who want to form a new organization should stop in the Office of Student
Activities for
assistance. Staff can explain the procedures to become recognized on
campus. Fleet Vehicles: The Physical Plant is the central office for scheduling the use of fleet vehicles. If your organization is sponsoring an event which involves traveling the Physical Plant may accommodate your vehicle needs. Please reserve vehicles several weeks before the date of your event to assure your request may be granted. This is very important because there is a heavy demand for these vehicles.
