Move In Day
When are move in days? The residence halls will open at 8:00am on Monday, September 1, 2008 and again at 8:00am on Tuesday, September 2, 2008. When are first year students expected to be moved in by? All first year students are asked to be moved in by 4:00pm on Monday, September 1. What am I supposed to do once I arrive on campus? Please report to the front desk of the residence hall you have been assigned to. The hall staff will issue each student their university card, room key, mailbox number and combination and room condition card. Where can I park upon arrival on move in day? There are no parking restrictions. You are free to park as close to your designated hall as you can get. Please avoid the clinic and hospital parking lot if at all possible. Will there be someone available to help me move in? We can’t guarantee that people will be available to assist but members of the women’s volleyball team, members of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and orientation leaders have organized in the past to lend a hand. Can I arrive prior to move in day and move into my hall? Requests for early move-in are typically not granted except in extenuating circumstances. Students who want to move in prior to the scheduled move in day must contact the housing office at 605-256-5146 or send Steve Bartel an e-mail note at steve.bartel@dsu.edu to obtain permission to do so. Please contact us at least one week in advance of your desired arrival date. Will my meal plan be active on Monday, September 1? The first contract meal will be available on Monday, September 1, 11:00am-1:00pm. Where can my family members and I eat on move in day? DSU faculty/staff and alumni will be manning barbeque grills from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Monday. Feel free to grab a hamburger, hot dog, bag of chips and a cold drink free of charge. Grills will be located outdoors between residence halls. New students will receive a spaghetti supper Monday night as part of orientation activities. What activities are planned for me on move in day? New student orientation activities begin at 4:00pm on Monday, September 1. Events include introductions to your orientation leaders and members of your assigned orientation group, group meetings designed to allow you to get to know fellow students better, supper and a dance.
