INSIGHT
Alcohol & Other Drug Education Class
Dakota State University Alcohol & Other Drug Office
INSIGHT serves as DSU's
primary alcohol and other drug (AOD) education class for
students receiving a first time on-campus violation of AOD
policy. Utilizing a combination of in- and out-of-class
assignments, INSIGHT is designed to educate students on a
variety of subjects related to alcohol and other drug use with
the goal of reducing repeat offenses of university policy.
INSIGHT curriculum includes an assessment of current student
risk and strategies for risk-reduction and risk-elimination.
In addition, students learn about the signs & symptoms - and
appropriate responses - related to Acute Alcohol Poisoning,
Blood Alcohol Content (or BAC) based on gender & weight and
the time necessary to return to zero BAC, as well as the
potential impact that AOD legal issues have on future
employment opportunities.
INSIGHT also utilizes
ALCOHOL 101 Plus, an
interactive software program developed through a cooperative
effort of the
Century Council and the
University of Illinois "aimed
at helping students make safe and responsible decisions on
college campuses". The program seeks to "provide
students and educators with thoughtful and realistic scenarios
for reflection and discussion".
INSIGHT... one of several services offered by DSU's Alcohol &
Other Drug Office to reduce the potential impact that alcohol
and other drug use has on student persistence, retention and
academic success.
