Bachelor of Science in Multimedia/Web Development

The Bachelor of Science in Multimedia/Web Development consists of courses in computer graphics, art, writing, web creation, marketing and computing. It is designed to prepare graduates to assume a variety of positions such as Web Designer, Web Developer, Website Manager, or Webmaster for businesses, educational institutions, and government. In addition, graduates will be prepared for a wide range of positions requiring a background in computer multimedia.

Admission to the Program

To be admitted into Dakota State University's Multimedia/Web Development program, degree-seeking students must meet the following four criteria (students who do not meet the following criteria, may be considered for admission only under special circumstances):

  1. have a minimum completed 32 semester hours of college-level work -- at least 12 of which must have been earned from DSU.
  2. have an overall grade-point average of 2.5 or above.
  3. have completed ART 121, ENGL 208, and at least one additional course with an ART, ARTD, or MCOM prefix;
  4. show promise of success in meeting the goals and objectives of the program.Students seeking admission to the program must:
    • write a formal letter of application submitted to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, 114 Beadle Hall.
    • submit the name of at least one DSU professor who may be contacted for reference.
    • complete an admission interview with your advisor and with the Multimedia/Web Admission Committee -- if requested.

Students may complete the 18 credit hours required for a Multimedia/Web Design minor without being admitted into the program. However, students who have not been admitted into the program may not enroll in additional classes required for the Multimedia/Web Development major.

Upon acceptance into the program, the student will discuss with one or more faculty members the building of a portfolio including at least five representative works from courses required for the Multimedia/Web Development major and numbered 300 and above. These works may include such things as course projects, major research papers or projects, multimedia presentations, or web pages. A written evaluation of the portfolio, completed in controlled circumstances, will be required.

All students earning a Bachelor of Science in Multimedia/Web Development degree must complete the following courses:
