Faculty and Student Access
Access to WebAdvisor
Access WebAdvisor in one of the following ways:
Retrieving Your ID and password
- Account Information
This selection includes the I’m New to WebAdvisor, What’s my
User ID?, What’s my Password, and Change Password options.
- I'm New to WebAdvisor
I'm New to WebAdvisor walks you through how to access your WebAdvisor
user ID, how to reset your password, how to check your e-mail to receive
your password and how to login.
- What's my user ID?
To display your user ID on the screen, enter your last name (required)
and your Social Security Number (SSN) or Student ID.
- What's My Password?
The "What's my Password" lists three options to view your password hint,
reset your password when you have forgotten it, or set up a password if
you are new to WebAdvisor. All three options will send your password to
you via the e-mail that is recorded in the student information system.
The Pluto e-mail address is used for on campus students. For students
with no Pluto address or who are off campus, the address listed will be
an internet address provided by the student. If you do not currently
have an e-mail address recorded in the student system, forward an e-mail
to csweb@dsu.edu to request that one be added for you.
Change my password
Your WebAdvisor password can be changed by using the Change Password
option in WebAdvisor. Your new password must meet the following
criteria:
- 6 to 9 characters in length
- contains at least 2 numbers
- no special characters
If you do not remember your password, use
the Reset Password option found by clicking on the What's my Password link to have your password
sent to the e-mail address recorded in the student system.
Change of Contact Information
Click on the DSU Name and Address Change
link on the Student and Faculty pages and complete the name and address
change form. This form will generate an email to the enrollment services
office.
Logging In; Logging Out
- Select Log In from either the Main
Menu or from the Prospective Students, Students or Faculty Menus.
Until you log in using your WebAdvisor ID and password, you will
only have guest privileges. A welcome message with your name will
display on the form when logged into your ID.

User ID is comprised of your first initial, middle initial, and your
last name. Some User ID’s may have numbers following the last name
(example: mzsmith or mzsmith295).
- Enter your password.
If you have forgotten or do not know
your user ID and password, click on the “I’m new to WebAdvisor” link
below the Submit button or from the main faculty menu.
- Remember to select Log Out from the
menu after accessing your confidential student information.
Search for Sections
TO AVOID TIMEOUTS, PLEASE KEEP SEARCHES AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE.
To do multiple searches, select the Menu at the top of the screen and
begin again as detailed below.
A User ID and password are not needed to use the Search for Sections
option in WebAdvisor.
Select
the Prospective Students, Student or
Faculty button from the Main Menu.
Select Search for Sections.
Three fields must be filled in for a
valid search. The Term or Start Date plus University or Location are
required (an explanation of the University and Location fields are
below). The third field should be SECT or SECT
and Course Number or anything not already selected. Once the
selection criteria have been entered, click Submit to see a listing
of classes based upon your search parameters.
Use the university and location fields separately or in combination
to select course sections for a specific university, USDSU or
geographic area. Either the university or location field must be
entered. In the
University drop down menu, select the university (BHSU, DSU, NSU,
SDSMT, SDSU, or USD) to retrieve the sections for a specific
university. In the Location drop down menu, a section location or
geographic area (ex. USDSU, Pierre) may be selected to limit the
sections.
Use the remainder of the fields to further narrow the class search.
Examples of additional ways to perform specific searches are listed
below.
- Use a combination of the university and location. For example, select USD and USDSU to display only the sections USD offered at USDSU.
- Use the Subjects box to select only the subjects needed.
- Use the Academic Level to search for a specific level of course (UG
for undergraduate, GR for graduate)
- Use the Course Level box to search for only specific course levels
(100, 200, 300 etc.)
When course sections are displayed, note that the course section numbers
have a university identifier as the first character, for example,
CSC-105-D02. This is to help you to identify the university that is
responsible for the section. In addition, the university/location field
on the section display also identifies the university or location.
Submit. For additional information regarding searching, refer to
Search for Sections Help.
