Job Descriptions
The Fund for Excellence Phonathon offers two basic positions to student employees. These positions are telemarketing representative and telemarketing supervisor. Both positions are essential to the success of the program. The Phonathon pays a competitive rate and offers a number of benefits. If you are interested in one of the two positions listed below, please fill out an online application or contact Heather Mueller in the Student Employment Office, Heston Hall 2nd floor.
Phonathon Representative
The primary responsibility of these employees is telephoning alumni and friends asking for Fund for Excellence contributions. This is to be done in a courteous and professional manner, as representatives serve as "Ambassadors" to the university. In order to be most effective, these employees are trained in telemarketing techniques.
They are responsible for learning different giving areas and clubs, having knowledge of the university, updating biographical and demographic information of prospects, channeling constructive alumni response through supervisors and appropriate University officials, and maintaining standards of performance as set by the Program Director. Representative will periodically be evaluated by the Program Director and must be able to work toward a series of goals.
The Phonathon looks for diligent, detail-oriented students to fill these positions. Responsibility is a must. Representatives are expected to work a minimum of two nights a week (Sunday – Thursday), two Sundays per month, and always be punctual. Fluency in the English language is also necessary.
Phonathon Supervisor
The telemarketing supervisor has a wide array of responsibilities. First, performing all the duties of a telemarketing representative. Second, managing student callers with the assistance of the Program Director. This entails motivating, encouraging, and praising student callers, monitoring callers statistics to evaluate their effectiveness, giving suggestions to increase their effectiveness, and continuing training.
Third, managing the phonathon calling room in the absence of the Program Director. This includes insuring that the callers are informed about each constituency and prepared to successfully talk with them. Specific duties included organizing role-plays, making announcements and organizing short games to increase caller motivation. It also includes a variety of clerical duties such as keeping attendance, filling out time cards, and keeping track of bonuses.
Fourth, serving as a liaison between the callers and Program Director. Fifth, assisting with planning and implementation of special events and training sessions. In a telemarketing supervisor, the Phonathon Program is looking for a creative, extremely responsible, and organized upperclassman or graduate student to work two to three nights a week and two Sundays per month. Fluency in the English language is also necessary.
