DSU’s Phi Beta Lambda Attends National Conference Madison – Five officers of the Dakota State University
Phi Beta Lambda Business Club traveled to Chicago in early July to compete in
several areas at the National Leadership Conference. The conference presents opportunities for them to meet
students and advisors from other campuses nationwide and to attend information
workshops. These workshops focus on
building leadership skills, improving their time management, motivational
speaking, and other ways to improve their performance as officers of our local
chapter. In addition, due to their
superior performance at the state conference in Pierre last spring, each one
earned the right to compete at the national level in at least one event. Brandi Blachford, Rachel Denny, Susan Dunn, Shannon Proehl,
and Kim Wicks were selected to represent the state of South Dakota in the
following five individual academic and chapter activity areas: Susan Dunn: Information
Management & Chapter Web Site Dunn took 9th place in Information Management.
The Chapter Web Site took 3rd place.
Proehl redesigned the chapter's web site this year and she and Dunn
presented it in competition at both the state and national conferences. “Dakota State was well represented at this year's
conference, sending two more students this summer than last, and garnering
recognition at both the individual and chapter levels.
It is especially impressive that Dakota State's strength in technology is
apparent from the areas in which our students chose to compete,” said Dr. Dan
Talley, co-advisor for Phi Beta Lambda. “And,
although these individuals are to be highly commended for their exceptional
performance, the entire chapter will be strengthened by their achievements.
All of the students who attended the conference will continue to play
important roles in the club this year. Indeed,
their enthusiasm for the organization at all levels will no doubt inspire other
members to get involved and try to attain similar success.” Phi Beta Lambda is a nationally-affiliated, voluntary
service organization that encourages academic scholarship and personal
leadership of its members. In
addition to conferences, the local chapter sponsors many events and activities
on campus throughout the year. Membership is not restricted to business majors;
any interested student is welcome. (end) |
