Official Enrollment Numbers Released by Dakota State University

Madison – Enrollment increases were announced by the South Dakota Board of Regents last week.  Dakota State University headcount rose 9.4% -- with a total of 2,003 students.  Credit hours and full time equivalent student enrollment measured at this same time also increased dramatically for 1999, with both figures coming in at 16% higher than last year.

“Dakota State University has established a leadership position in South Dakota by addressing the State’s needs in information technology.  DSU provides information technology workers that will spur continued economic development for our state and region,” said Dr. Jerald Tunheim, president of DSU.

DSU also had a strong freshmen class this year.  DSU welcomed a freshmen class that increased 21% from the previous fall class.  The freshmen were again the most academically prepared the school has ever registered.  Transfer students were up as well – a 54% increase from last year.

“DSU students are aggressively sought by employers and are finding outstanding career opportunities at graduation time,” said Marie Lohsandt, Director of Career and Placement Services at DSU.  “Enrollment increases are mutually beneficial for the University and employers.”
