Lyndon Wiesman Joins
Dakota State Faculty

(Madison, SD)  Lyndon H. Wieseman, formerly of Osceola, Nebraska, is one the new faculty additions at Dakota State this year and a representation of the University’s rededication to the enhancement of its athletic programs.  In addition to Mr. Wieseman’s academic responsibilities, his special focus will be on resource development for DSU’s athletic line-up.  Wieseman will work on a variety of programs designed to raise additional funds for athletic scholarships and to substantially increase attendance at games.  He also intends to revitalize the somewhat dormant Booster Club.

“A well-rounded athletic program is an essential element in the university experience,” said Dr. Jerald A. Tunheim, DSU’s president.  “In the past decade or so we have made great strides in our academic programs and those efforts have achieved national recognition for Dakota State and for the City of Madison.  While we will continue to build and enhance the academic side, athletics is a part of a well-rounded university.  We need to also build in this area and we hope that Lyndon Wieseman will be key person in that endeavor.”

Wieseman, no stranger to South Dakota, is a graduate of SDSU in Brookings where he earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech & Journalism and a Master of Science in Geography & Planning.  He went on to earn a Master of Science in Education in Athletic Administration at Wayne State and continued with doctoral studies at the University of Nebraska.  He worked as an administrator and an instructor at Wayne State College where one of his primary responsibilities was athletic resource development.   During Wieseman’s career at Wayne State, the college was able to make substantial progress in expanding its athletic programs.

“We are delighted to have Lyndon on our team,” said Marty Gallanter, Director of the DSU Foundation.  “Our scholarship growth on the academic side, especially in Information Systems, has been very healthy for the past few years.  But we have lagged in athletics.  At Dakota State we are very proud of our athletic success in the classroom and on the playing fields.  We have a long tradition of scholar/athletes at this university.  When we are able to convince donors that an athletic contribution is just as important as an academic donation, we will be able to improve the program.  Lyndon Wieseman will be the person coordinating that effort.”

With the construction of a new grandstand, currently under way, and the beginning of the new Madison Community Center, major physical changes are already taking place around the DSU Fieldhouse.

“This part of the campus is rapidly becoming a first-class sports and recreational complex that will service the entire community,” said Judy Dittman, DSU Athletic Director.  “The facilities will help us continue to attract the high level student athlete.  During the next year we expect to see major forward movement in our entire program and additional resources are critical.  Lyndon will be the point-man for this project, but raising money for athletics is a campus wide effort.  We are all committed to its success.”

Mr. Wieseman, his wife and five children, have recently relocated to Madison.
