DSU Ranked #3 Top
Midwestern Public Liberal Arts College Madison – U.S. News & World Report released
the Best Colleges 2000 last Friday, naming Dakota State University as one of two
institutions sharing the third Top Midwestern Public Liberal Arts College
ranking. This is the second
national recognition for DSU this year. Last
May, Dakota State was ranked #10 in Yahoo! Internet Life magazine’s Top
100 Most Wired Colleges. “Being the tenth most wired college in the nation was an
accomplishment that hit at the core of our institutional strength and of which
we are extremely proud. To also
receive such high honors as #3 in the Midwest for public liberal arts colleges,
which is not our primary mission, is further certification of the overall
educational quality that permeates our institution,” said Dr. Jerald Tunheim,
president of Dakota State University. According to U.S. News, 75 percent of a school’s
ranking is based on a formula that uses objective measures of academic quality
such as graduation rates. The
remaining 25 percent is based on a reputational survey.
U.S. News asks the president, provost, and dean of admissions at
each school to rate the quality of academic programs for schools in the same
category, including their own. To be included in the rankings, a college or university
must be accredited and have a total enrollment of at least 250 students. (end) |
