Dakota State University Moves Up in National Ranking Madison Dakota State University is pleased to announce it has once again been ranked in Yahoo Internet Life magazines 100 Most Wired Colleges moving up to #10. The magazine also placed DSU #3 in the Top Five State Schools in the country Washington University and Indiana University came in front and UCLA and University of Idaho came in behind. "We are extremely proud to be listed once again in the 100 Most Wired Colleges. To be ranked as one of the Top 10 Most Wired colleges in the nation substantiates our mission of being a technology leader in higher education," said Dr. Jerald Tunheim, President of Dakota State University. The magazine annually surveys colleges across the country for its technology capabilities and the involvement of students in the use of technology in their education. It measures such things as Internet access, registering students online, technology immersion in coursework, availability of distance learning courses, and network infrastructure. Also, this year the magazine ranked things like laptop ports installed on campus and the number of computers available per student on campus. Dakota State University was the only South Dakota public or private university to make the Top 100 list. DSU was noted because of its freshman requirement to take Computer Science 105, which is an introduction to email, the Net, and web design. Dakota State University was also honored by being selected as one of the ten most innovative program developments of 1987 in higher education for its integration of technology in its curriculum. The Mitau Award was a recognition by the nations largest association of higher education institutions, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. DSU was also recognized in 1996 by NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) which stated that its computer endorsement for teacher education is an "exemplary practice", one that is "progressive and innovative" which other institutions may wish to use "as a model." In 1998, Yahoo Internet Life Magazine rated DSU #12 of Americas Most Wired Colleges. (end) |
