Dakota State University to Host Madison -- Dakota State University will host a week-long satellite teleconference on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention and Education from June 15-19 from 9am-4pm. The satellite teleconference, SKY SCHOOL, will be held locally at the Karl Mundt Library on campus. The target audience for the SKY SCHOOL includes public child welfare employees, therapists, licensed professional counselors, teachers, social workers, psychiatrists, nurses, and individuals who provide service for children and families. Topics for the morning general sessions include: "After 25 Years, What Does It Matter? Why We Keep Going" presented by Dr. Robert Ackerman; "A New Spirituality: Breaking the Myth," presented by Father Leo Booth; "A Message of Hope," presented by Dr. Lonise Bias; "Moving On: Overcoming Alcohol and Drug Addiction," presented by Carl Eller; and "Healing and Reviving the Family Spirit," presented by Dr. Janice Sjostrand. Daily Workshops will include: "The Family, Substance Abuse, and Violence," presented by Dr. Stephanie Covington; "Parenting Skills for At-Risk Families," presented by Jerry Moe; "Conflicts Resolution in Families," presented by Don Coyhis; "Substance Abuse Issues in Family Centered Practice," presented by Dr. Patricia OGorman; and "Becoming Advocates for Children of Diverse Populations," presented by Amy Rossi. Continuing education credits will be available through the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Cost for continuing education credits is $15 per day or $50 for 5 days of training to register.
