DSU Faculty to present at AACTE conference
MadisonA group of Dakota State University faculty members will be presenters at the annual American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) being held in the New Orleans on February 26-28. Representing the College of Natural Sciences will be Philip Sandberg, Dean, Dale Droge, Assistant Professor, Donna Hazelwood, Assistant Professor, and Bryan Breyfogle, Assistant Professor. Susan Brown-Sandberg, Associate Professor for the College of Education, will also be in attendance. Jeffrey Palmer, Assistant Professor for the College of Natural Sciences, was involved in the original proposal, but is unable to attend the conference. "Preparing Teachers in the Information Age: Technology-Enhanced, Interactive Interdisciplinary Learning in Science and Mathematics" was one of more than 620 papers received in response to AACTEs call for papers for the conference and was one of 230 selected. The team of faculty, representing different disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics and Physics) and the discussant/critic from Teacher Education will explain uses of DSUs SMART Lab in teacher preparation and present sample lessons and case studies. In the SMART Lab, students are involved in hands-on activities which share data and interpretations across traditional disciplinary boundaries. AACTE is a national, voluntary organizations of colleges and universities with undergraduate and/or graduate programs and is located in the National Center for Higher Education in Washington DC.
