Dakota State University Releases Placement Rates for 1998 Grads Record Number Reached Madison -- Demand for graduates in Computer Science, Information Systems, and Health Sciences continues to exceed supply at Dakota State University. The overall placement rate for the Class of 1998 was 90%, a record number for DSU. Seventy-nine percent of the graduates were placed in positions in South Dakota. "Because of their technical knowledge and abilities, many 1998 graduates already had jobs lined up when they graduated. Many were in the enviable position of having multiple job offers to consider prior to graduation and, the most difficult task of the career search was not finding a position, it was deciding which position to accept," said Marie Lohsandt, Director of Career Services and Placement at DSU. By major, Computer Science and Information Systems yielded the highest starting average salary at $33,777. These salaries reflect the high demand for graduates in these areas and reflect a 9% increase over last years average. Graduates in Computer Science, Information Systems, English for Information Systems, Health Information, and Respiratory Care continued to have 100% placement. Education majors also had strong placement rates, particularly in the Special Education field. "The need for computer technology skills, combined with the hands-on experience that students receive through internships and special projects, continues to be the driving force behind the high demand for DSU graduates," concluded Lohsandt.
