Dakota State University Announces New Development Director (Madison, SD) Dakota State University announced that Marty Gallanter, currently of Tyler, MN, has been appointed to the position of Director of Development for the Dakota State University Foundation. In that capacity, Gallanter will coordinate all private fund raising efforts for the 1400 student campus located in eastern South Dakota. Prior to joining the staff of Dakota State University, Gallanter was a resource developer for the Southwest/West Central Service Cooperatives in Marshall, MN. Gallanter moved to the upper Mid-West in 1993 from New York City where he had been the development director for the century-old Legal Aid Society of New York. Prior to joining Legal Aid, Gallanter had held a number of posts in the national office of the United Jewish Appeal, also headquartered in New York. "We believe that Mr. Gallanter will provide us with the background and experience we need at Dakota State University to achieve significant increases in our private fund-raising efforts," said Dr. Jerald A. Tunheim, the University President. "Our specialized curriculum has helped us to achieve a very high job placement rate for our graduates. With an increase in private funds, we can expand our scholarship programs and offer opportunities to those who might not otherwise be able to attend our University." "Higher education not only improves the quality of life for those who graduate," said Gallanter, "but can also change the destiny of a family for generations to come. I am pleased to have the opportunity to find funding for deserving, hard-working students who only want to make a better future for themselves and for their families." Dakota State University was founded in 1881 as the first teacher education institution in the Dakota Territory. In 1984, the Legislature and the South Dakota Board of Regents turned to Dakota State University to educate leaders for the information age resulting in leading edge computer/information degree programs offered as part of DSUs wide-variety curriculum. |
