Dakota State University Participates in  Big Give Project

Dakota State University (DSU) students, faculty and staff raised $1272 to aid a local family as part of Oprah’s Big Give television show.  Contestants on the show are given the name of a complete stranger asked to come up with a way to make a positive and profound difference in that stranger’s life.

As part of the show, Oprah chose 100 television affiliates across the nation to give $10,000 dollars to "pay it forward".  KSFY in Sioux Falls was one of those affiliates. They took the money and broke it up into thirds, giving Avera, Target, and CitiBank each $2500.

Target chose the help Konokowitz family of Sioux Falls and asked others, including Dakota State University to participate. Dakota State used two initiatives, Storm the Campus, and Casual Friday, to raise money.

Storm the Campus involved the DSU Student Activities Board going from door to door in the residence halls and in campus buildings asking for donations. On Casual Friday, faculty and staff were asked to donate $5 for the opportunity to wear jeans to work.

The DSU donation, along with the others collected from the area, will be revealed to the Konokowitz family April 17.
