DSU Hosts Los Alamos Scientist Dr. Laura Stonehill

 

Dakota State University will host Dr. Laura Stonehill from Los Alamos National Laboratory for an open forum on careers for women in science, Wednesday, April 9 at 1:00pm in the auditorium of the Habeger Science Center on the DSU campus.   Following her presentation, Dr. Stonehill will meet with students from the DSU Women in Science and Technology group in the Mundt Foundation.

 

Dr. Stonehill is a postdoctoral research associate at the Los Alamos lab in Los Alamos, New Mexico. She has been working in the Space Science and Applications group of LANL's International, Space, and Response Division since November, 2007.  Dr. Stonehill received her PhD in Physics, with an emphasis in experimental nuclear physics, from the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, WA in 2005.  She also holds a MS in physics from UW and a BA from Pomona College in Claremont, CA.

Dr. Stonehill’s current research interests focus on developing imaging detectors for national security applications.  She is also involved in several organizations in Los Alamos, including the Los Alamos Postdoc Association and Los Alamos Women in Science.  

The presentation is free and open to the public.
