State University
Expands Academic Offerings
Dakota
State
University
will soon make available to students three more of its degree
offerings completely online. The
Madison
campus received permission this week from the South Dakota Board of
Regents to implement the new delivery options starting this fall.
The new options apply to the B.S.
degree in computer information systems and two associate degrees,
one in business management and another in applications programming.
Dakota
State will take advantage
of the Internet and other courses already offered by the state’s
universities to deliver these degrees online, regents’ officials
said. Faculty will advise students using e-mail, telephone, and live
chat sessions.
“Moving these programs to distance
delivery will provide greater access to more students and contribute
to workforce development across the state,” said Dakota State
President Doug Knowlton. “Because of the emphasis on information
technology in South Dakota’s
economy, we’ve had requests to make these degrees available to a
wider audience.”
In addition, the regents approved a
new minor in digital photography on the Dakota
State
campus. Starting this fall, the minor will be an option for students
to add to a B.S. degree in digital arts and design. It may also be
attractive to students pursuing other majors, such as marketing,
management, and scientific forensics technology, as a way to
demonstrate their photography skills to potential employers. The
minor requires completion of 18 undergraduate credit hours.
