South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds outlined the High Speed
Research, Education and Economic Development Network (High Speed
REED) in his budget address to the 2008 Legislature in Pierre. The
network will connect each of the six university campuses, the
University Center in Sioux Falls, EROS, state government and the
underground laboratory being developed at the Homestake mine site in
Lead
The High Speed REED Network will give the universities and
research centers the ability to share massive amounts of research
data quickly with scientists worldwide by utilizing the highest
network speeds available.
Associated with the REED Network is a research computer cluster
which will support the computational and data storage needs of the
South Dakota research community.
This supercomputing equipment will be hosted by DSU in the
University’s high-security server room. In this same facility, the
University already hosts the K-12 Data Center which supports e-mail,
web-hosting, curriculum management and other services for the
state’s K-12 school districts. |
