Ninth Annual Juried Exhibit in Horse Barn Arts Center Awards Announce SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Empire Arts Council is hosting the Ninth Annual Juried Art Exhibit at the Horse Barn Arts Center in Falls Park during October. “The juried show is always one of our finest exhibits, and the quality of art in this year’s show is some of the best we’ve had,” said Deb Klebanoff, Executive Director of the Arts Council. “There were more than 90 submissions of art from the region, with just 47 pieces selected for the show.” Jurors for this year’s exhibit were long-time Sioux Falls artist, Mary Groth; Tom Shields – Associate Professor of Art at Augustana College; and Erin Toft, recent arts graduate and emerging Sioux Falls artist. of $125 were presented to one work in each of three categories –
2-dimensional art, including paintings, drawings, graphic arts;
3-dimensional art, including fiber, wood, ceramic,
Winners announced at the Sunday, October 14, reception, in the Horse Barn were: Two-Dimensional Award to Larry Negaard of Brookings for his watercolor entitled “Aftermath”; Three-Dimensional Award to Peg Lindberg of Sioux Falls for her art quilt entitled “Hidden Spirits”; Photography Award to Tom Jones of Madison for his work entitled “Fall Door”. Honorable Mentions were given to Sean Conrad of Vermillion for his oil painting entitled “Afternoon By the Vermillion River”; Susan Heggestad of Vermillion for her mixed media piece entitled “End of A Wintry Existence”; Louise Lyman of Yankton for her acrylic painting entitled “Growing Up Flamingo”; and Joy Crane of Sioux Falls for her mixed media bead sculpture entitled “DNA Specimen No. 156: Field Corn: October 7, 2053”. Other communities represented in the 2007 exhibit include artists from Aberdeen, Brookings, Edgerton, Gregory, Harrisburg, Raymond, Watertown, and Worthing, as well as Luverne MN and Orange City IA.
