DSU Faculty Member Receives Award for Excellence in E-Learning

DSU associate professor Dr. Haomin Wang has been awarded the Staff Recognition Award for Excellence in E-Learning by the South Dakota Board of Regents (SDBOR). This is a new award, designed to honor staff members who work with the e-learning programs across the state.  Staff members eligible for the award include those who work with student services, course designers and developers and others working on the campuses or at the off campus centers.  Dr. Wang was nominated by his colleagues at DSU and chosen to receive the award through a selection committee at the SDBOR.

Dr. Wang has been at Dakota State for 9 years. He is a faculty member in the College of Education, teaching in the Master of Science in Educational Technology program.  He is currently the manager of E-Technology Services at DSU.  During his tenure at DSU he helped faculty create course websites, created training material for faculty and students, and served for a time as the DSU Webmaster.  Dr. Wang developed the Early Alert System to support DSU’s retention efforts relative to at-risk students.

On the state level, Wang has been involved in system wide committees, with an emphasis being on all the Course Management System (CMS) task forces over the years.  At a national level, Haomin has presented research at several conferences and has been the Webmaster for the American Association for Collegiate Independent Study (AACIS), also serving on the AACIS Board.  Dr. Wang is the co-author of a text titled Developing and Designing Web-Based Instruction, used in classrooms across the country.
