DSU Baseball Coach Accepts New Position DSU Baseball Coach Pat Dolan has resigned his position at the university to take a similar one at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN. Dolan has been at DSU since 2001. During his time at DSU, Coach Dolan’s baseball team achieved national recognition, capturing the Region III Championships in 2003 and 2005 and advancing to the Super Regional in those years. Dakota State again qualified for the regional tournament in the 2007 season. Beginning the year with 22 consecutive wins, the DSU baseball team under Coach Dolan went on to set the record for the most wins in a season with 39. Dolan’s team reached the NAIA national ranking of #7, another record for the DSU team. This spring Dolan achieved his 300th career coaching win. He compiled a 182-111 coaching record at DSU, the best winning percentage in DSU baseball history. Dolan will begin his coaching duties at St. Cloud on June 13, 2007. He takes over at NCAA Division II St. Cloud State from Denny Lorsung who had been the baseball coach there since 1979. Dolan’s family is from the St. Cloud area and that played a role in his decision to move. “This was hands down the most difficult professional decision I have ever had to make,” said Coach Dolan. “Words can’t describe my gratitude for the DSU family and friends I’ve made the past six years. I owe a lot to former Athletic Director Dr. Gioglio, former President Tunheim, President Dr. Knowlton and Athletic Director Gene Wockenfuss for their support and friendship. We didn’t build this program without their help.” A national search will begin immediately for
new Dakota State head baseball coach. |
