Dittman Named College of Education Dean

Dr. Judy Dittman has been named Dean of the College of Education at Dakota State University.  Dr. Dittman began her career at Dakota State University in 1978 and has held a number of both faculty and administrative leadership positions.  Most recently, Judy has been serving as Secondary Education Coordinator and Chair of the Academic Assessment Committee, as well as being a leader in the advising initiatives supported by Title III.

Dittman also has served on numerous campus committees including chairing the Faculty Advising Team (FASTeam) in the summer of 2005.   Under her leadership the FASTeam implemented an early alert program to identify students who need additional support to succeed at Dakota State.

From 1978 through 1991, Dittman coached the Lady T’s Basketball team, compiling a 176-99 record and earning a place in the DSU Athletics Hall of Fame.  Dittman was named SDIC Coach of the Year five times in seven years (1984-1987 and 1990).  In 1984, she was named South Dakota Women's college Coach of the year by the South Dakota Sportswriters Association.  She is the only female coach inducted into the South Dakota-Iowa Conference Hall of Fame and is also a member of the Black Hills State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Dittman was selected by a committee of her DSU peers to receive the DeWayne Mork Excellence in Service Award in 2006.  Dittman replaces Dr. Tom Hawley who resigned as Dean for a position at Northern State University.
