Dakota
State University Students Honored for Their Work
The South Dakota Board of Regents has recognized
student organizations at Dakota State University for their
initiative and positive contributions to the community.
Student organization award winners are:
-
Award for
Academic Excellence
– The Phi
Beta Lambda Business Club brings business and education
together through innovative leadership and career development
programs. PBL sponsored many service projects in the past year,
and its members attended both state and national leadership
conferences, where they competed in business-related events. The
group also sponsored local workshops on interviewing tips,
internship opportunities, and investing. These conferences and
workshops allow PBL members to apply what they have learned in
their academic program.
-
Community
Service Award
– Fear the
Turkey, Dakota State’s drama club offers students the
opportunity to participate in theater and expand their
performing arts experience. The club sponsored a haunted house
on campus, hosted a day camp for local middle school students to
learn theater basics, and entertained at assisted living centers
during the holidays. The group has focused this year on
involving not only DSU students but all of the Madison community
in its activities.
-
Award for
Organizational Leadership
– Students in
Free Enterprise apply the knowledge they have learned in the
classroom to projects the organization conducts in the
community. A new organization at Dakota State, the group quickly
became involved in a variety of projects, such as helping
low-income families with their taxes, talking to local school
students about financial literacy, and working with start-up
businesses in marketing and business planning. The SIFE team
from Dakota State won its regional competition last spring and
competed at the national level, where the team earned “Rookie of
the Year” honors.
