DSU Professors  and Students Part of Art Exhibition at NSU

DSU professors and students  will be included in an all-state faculty exhibition in the Johnson Fine Art Center gallery at Northern State University in Aberdeen. The exhibition began on October 9 and continues through October 26.  The artwork on display is from faculty at Northern State University, University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University, Dakota State University, Black Hills State University and Augustana College. The gallery is open M-F 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The exhibition is part of the annual conference held by the South Dakota College Arts Association (SDCAA.) DSU faculty included in the exhibit are Alan Montgomery’s photograph “Sister” and Joe Staudenbaur’s mixed media drawing.  Also included are Tom Jones' photograph "Winter Door" and art created in the classroom of Brad Hesser. Students with work on display are Sara Arizmendis, Jason Nielsen, Josh Hofer, Andrew Kallemeyn, Erin Hight, and Becky Knips.     

Keynote speaker for the event is Laurel Reuter. Reuter is the Founding Director of the North Dakota Museum of Art where she also serves as Chief Curator. She was born and raised on the Spirit Lake Dakota Reservation in North Dakota. She completed her M.A. degree in American literature at the University of North Dakota in 1977, and as a graduate student established a gallery in the Student Union that evolved into North Dakota’s first art museum, the North Dakota Museum of Art. In 2007 she received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of North Dakota. As curator for the Museum she has organized over 100 exhibitions.

The South Dakota College Arts Association (SDCAA) is an organization that enhances the professional development of art faculty in South Dakota. The annual conference is an opportunity to discuss issues of teaching, scholarship and professional standards affecting the arts and faculty in higher education within the state. Equally important is the opportunity to meet colleagues from other institutions, creating an opportunity to form an outstanding cadre of teaching professionals.
