DSU SIFE Team Honored at National Competition 

The Dakota State University Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team was named rookie of the year at the national competition in Kansas City this spring. Rookie of the year is the highest honor presented to first year teams.  The team won the regional contest in Minneapolis, making them eligible to compete at the national event.  

The DSU students were involved in projects that included preparing others for job interviews, filming a public service announcement on anti-piracy issues, working with local schools on financial issues, and bringing an investment advisor to campus to talk to students about debt and money management.  At both the regional and national competitions, the students presented summaries of their projects.

 The students involved in this effort were: David Wiederich (President), Jesse Erdman (VP), Lisa Reuland (Secretary), Jen Sanderson (Treasurer), Jodi Benson and Noah Sanderson (P.R.), Chris Raymond, Steve Woltjer, Travis Krueger, Brandon Nase, Heather Rogers, and Kyle Stoebner.  Their DSU advisor is Jack Walters.

SIFE is a service organization that encourages university students to perform community service, mainly in the areas of economics and business education.

 Students In Free Enterprise is a global organization operating on five continents. It supports education about market economics and entrepreneurship. SIFE is sponsored by about 200 of the world’s leading corporations, who donate money and executives’ time so that students can afford to participate in activities and travel to conferences. Many of these corporations also use their contacts with outstanding SIFE team members as opportunities to recruit graduates for career employment.
