Dakota State Students Excel at PBL Competition Dakota State University Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) members who competed at the SD PBL State Spring Leadership Conference in Pierre in April qualified to move on to the national competition in Nashville, TN in July. The state PBL conference offered student competitions including individual tests in academic and professional areas such as economics, statistical analysis, and computer concepts. Other areas of competition included tests of computer skills such as desktop publishing and network design, and communication skills such as public speaking, and job interviewing. In addition to the competition, there were two keynote speakers and three workshops offered at the conference. The keynote speakers were South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds and SD State Representative Gerald Lange from Madison. The three workshops were on the subjects of Business Survival Skills, Harnessing Diversity in the Workplace, and Ethics. The workshops were lead by uncompensated business and academic professionals. DSU student members of PBL who attended the conference included Stephanie Sherburne, Ellie Carlson, David Wiederich, Jeff Swett, Danielle Resick, Andrea Lindberg, Jennifer Thoreson, Heather Rogers, Brandon Nase, and Michael Perrion. DSU faculty advisors for PBL are Lynette Gorder, Orinda Christoph and Daniel Talley. Phi Beta Lambda is a student organization at Dakota State University. The PBL mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.
