Oral Interpretation Contest at Dakota State Dakota State University will host the Dakota Invitational Oral Interpretation contest, Saturday, October 21 in Madison. The contest attracts over 300 high school students from 31 schools across the state. Students from grades 9-12 compete in seven oral interpretation divisions: Humor, Drama, Poetry, Prose, Oratory, Duet, and Readers Theater. Every student competes in three preliminary rounds, performing before an audience of fellow competitors and an adult judge. The top speakers in each event advance to a final round, where three-judge panels determine the trophy winners in each category. Participating schools include Baltic, Brandon, Brookings, Colman Egan, Dell Rapids, Deuel, Elkton, Flandreau Public, Hitchcock-Tulare, Howard, James Valley Christian, Lake Preston, Lennox, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Madison Central, Milbank, Miller Area, Mitchell, Montrose, O'Gorman, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Rutland, Sioux Falls Christian, Sioux Valley, Tea Area, Sioux Falls Washington, Webster, Wessington Springs, West Central, Wolsey-Wessington, and Woonsocket. First hosted by Dakota State in 1983, the contest is sponsored by the Dakota State College of Arts and Sciences and the Karl E. Mundt Foundation.
