Administrator Selected to Attend National Symposium for Women Provides Skills for Campus Leaders WASHINGTON, DC (January 19, 2006) Approximately 50 women from across the United States were recently selected to attend the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators’ (NASPA) Leadership Symposium for Women Aspiring to be Senior Student Affairs Officers held January 19 – 22, 2006 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Marie Lohsandt, Director of Career & Internship Services at Dakota State University, was one of the women chosen from over a record number (110) of nominations. Lohsandt spent an five days at the intensive Women’s Leadership Symposium in Scottsdale which provided an engaging and mentoring environment for women to learn and reflect on their professional aspirations as it relates to higher education. Participants had the opportunity to meet individually and in small groups with a variety of women leaders and pioneers in the field of Student Affairs, including several presidents and vice-presidents of institutions of higher education across the United States. Participants also had the opportunity to meet with representatives of a national educational recruitment firm. Lohsandt has worked in the area of Student Affairs at Dakota State University for over 16 years and recently completed her Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota. She was nominated for the symposium by Steven Shirley, Vice President/Dean of Student Affairs at Dakota State University. NASPA is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC. It provides professional development for student affairs professionals, promotes exemplary practices in campus administration, and is a leader in higher education policy development.
