Popular Health Related Programs Available at DSU According to a press statement released by the South Dakota Board of Regents, health-related academic programs at South Dakota’s public universities continue to be popular options for students. “Our goal is to effectively deliver programs that meet the increasing demand for health care professionals in South Dakota,” said Regents Executive Director Robert T. Tad Perry. Perry noted that demand is being fueled by growth in the health care delivery sector as a result of an aging population and more specialization. Dakota State University offers majors that prepare students for careers in many of the health care fields cited by the Board of Regents. DSU majors include respiratory care, pre-respiratory care, health information administration and health information technology. DSU’s biology for information systems and physical science majors offer a pathway to professional programs in medicine and other health fields. Dakota State also offers an exercise science major. With courses in kinesiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics, the exercise science degree enables students to meet their individual career goals, whether in fitness, wellness, rehabilitation programs or graduate studies. For future health care providers who want to be able to communicate with Spanish speakers, DSU offers a minor in Spanish. The growing need for health care workers is the subject of a first-ever state health care workforce summit Monday, Aug. 7, in Pierre.
