DSU Student Awarded Haines Scholarship

Dakota State University student Jodi Neugebauer has been awarded a $2,150 Haines Scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Administered by the Board of Regents, the scholarship is awarded each year to a regental university sophomore, junior, or senior who is pursuing studies leading to a teaching certificate.  Applicants are evaluated on the basis of their GPA, high school and college memberships, services and activities, and statements of personal and educational philosophy.

The Haines Scholarship was established by Douglas Fugitt in memory of his wife, Dora Lee Haines, and her three sisters.  The four Haines sisters were all teachers in one-room rural schools in Perkins ad Corson counties of South Dakota.

Jodi Neugebauer is junior at Dakota State and a graduate of Ethan High School.  She is majoring in Elementary and Special Education.

A second scholarship recipient, Wendy Nisiewicz, is a senior at Northern State University.
