DSU professor rides to benefit cystic fibrosis research Madison - Dakota State associate professor of art, Alan Montgomery, is taking part in a bike ride this fall to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research. Cystic Fibrosis affects more than 30,000 people in the United States, with about 1,000 new cases being diagnosed each year. The 9th Annual Mickelson Trail Trek is a 109 mile ride over three days, from Friday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept 17. The ride begins in Edgemont, SD and follows the Mickelson trail to Deadwood. The trek is designed to raise money for the Mickelson trail but the organizers are allowing Montgomery to solicit pledges from his family and friends to direct to the CF cause. Montgomery became involved with Cystic Fibrosis when his son, Liam was diagnosed in 2001 with the disease. Supporters of Montgomery’s ride can contact him to make a pledge at alan.montgomery@dsu.edu or at 605-256-5270. Last year 534 people rode in the Mickelson Trail Trek, including riders from 31 states.
