Dakota State Wins National Admissions Award Dakota State University (DSU) was named Best of Show and earned the only gold medal nationally for schools its size for its overall advertising campaign. DSU earned these honors in Admissions Marketing Report’s twenty-first Annual Admissions Advertising Awards. This awards competition attracts more than 3,500 entries from every state and from foreign countries. DSU President Douglas Knowlton states, “We are grateful for these national honors. We made a decision that our admissions materials needed to reflect our unique technology mission, the edgy and creative aspects of the DSU environment and the quality of our educational experience. We were also determined that our publications would set us apart from the 'same old' materials that are standard in the industry. Our partnership with the James Tower firm helped us to achieve these goals and the national judges recognized this outstanding achievement.” Dakota State was judged on its admissions recruitment advertising program including the website, brochures, postcards, and other printed material. Entries are judged in twenty-four categories by a national panel of marketers, advertising creative directors, advertising professionals, consultants, marketing professors and the editorial board of Admissions Marketing Report. Entries that exhibited the highest production standards, creativity and professionalism were named Best of Show. Dakota State was named Best of Show along with other universities including many larger universities such as Tulane, Case Western Reserve University, and Carnegie Mellon University. Dakota State also received a gold medal for its total recruitment advertising campaign for schools with 2,000-4,999 students. Dakota State works with James Tower, a technology and communications company, to produce recruiting materials. A list of the winners will be published in the February 2006 issue of Admissions Marketing Report and is available on line at http://hmrpublicationsgroup.com/Admissions_Marketing_Report/index.html. Dakota State is a public university in Madison, SD with 2,300 students. DSU offers undergraduate majors in education, arts and sciences, and business and information systems, as well as graduate degrees in information systems, educational technology and information assurance. More information on the University can be found at www.dsu.edu.
