Nation’s Top Public Comprehensive Colleges
U.S.News & World Report has released the annual America’s Best Colleges survey results and Dakota State University is ranked #2 on the list of top public comprehensive colleges in the Midwest. This continued ranking by U.S. News recognizes not only the quality of the educational experience at DSU but also our continuing efforts to expand student opportunities and improve all aspects of our mission” U.S. News categorizes the nation’s schools by mission and region. They then gather data from each college on several measures of academic excellence including graduation and retention rate, student to faculty ratios, and alumni giving. The colleges are also asked to do a peer assessment of the other schools in their category. Scores for each measure are weighted to arrive at the final rankings. Schools are designated comprehensive when they concentrate on undergrad programs and offer a range of degrees including liberal arts and professional fields such as business and education. Of the 324 comprehensive colleges ranked in the 2006 survey, most are private and typically have higher tuition than public schools. Among the public schools listed, Dakota State was the highest ranked public comprehensive college in the Dakotas. |
