Speakers from National
Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security
Highlight Dakota State Symposium Madison - Members of the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security from Washington D.C. will be the highlighted speakers during the Dakota State University Center of Excellence Symposium on Information Assurance January 20-21. The symposium is an annual event sponsored by the Center of Excellence in Computer Information Systems at DSU. The two day symposium will begin with registration on Thursday morning in the Karl Mundt Foundation in the lower level of the Mundt Library on the campus of DSU. Following a welcome by DSU President Dr. Doug Knowlton, Dr. William Maconachy will make the keynote address. Dr. Maconachy is the National INFOSEC Education and Program Manager of the National Security Agency from Washington D.C. His speech will be followed by a session led by FBI special agent Jerry Dewees, speaking on computer forensics investigations. Other featured speakers on Thursday include David Sanders, Director of Critical Infrastructure Cyber Security for the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C. Friday sessions will run through noon and will include South Dakota’s Director of Homeland Security, John Berheim, talking about security issues as they directly relate to South Dakota. The final session on Friday will be led by Andrea Kelly, a detective with the Sioux Falls Police Department and Marv Thorstenson, an investigator with the Minnehaha County Sheriffs Office. Kelly and Thorstenson examine computer crimes that involve child pornography. Registration for the symposium is available online at www.excellence.dsu.edu and is open through January 15. The registration fee includes all sessions, meals and breaks. The symposium is being underwritten by several corporations including First Premier Bank, Schwan Food Company, and Citigroup. All registration fees will be directed toward scholarships at DSU.
