Keith Bundy is Outstanding Citizen with a Disability

Keith Bundy was honored as the 2005 Outstanding Citizen with a Disability during a governor’s Award Luncheon held March 8 in Pierre. Bundy is the Director of Student Development at Dakota State University.

Bundy receives the award from Secretary of State Chris Nelson. He is accompanied by colleagues Erik Miller and Cindy Petrone

The award is given to an individual with a disability in recognition of outstanding achievements in overcoming a disability and for the promotion of independent living and employment opportunities for other individuals with disabilities.

Bundy currently serves as the Co-President of the South Dakota Association of the Blind, and as chair of the Board of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired. Throughout his life he has been an advocate of academic achievement and independent living for other individuals with disabilities. He willingly shares his expertise with others by providing training on specialized assistive technology devices, participating in numerous listserves and speaking at meetings of clubs and organizations.

As Director of Student Development at DSU, he worked to modify the curriculum for a basic computer class to be taught to students who are blind or visually impaired. The course is available during the summer to all students statewide.

In his professional career, Bundy has served as a counselor, pastor, braillist, assistive technology teacher and speaker. He is currently the pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Madison.

Bundy lives in Madison with Peggy, his wife of nearly 25 years. The Bundy’s have four children.
