DSU Alumnus Killed in Iraq Dakota State graduate Jason Timmerman was killed in action Monday in Iraq. Jason was serving as a 1st Lieutenant with the 151st Field Artillery Unit from the Minnesota National Guard. He was killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad along with 2 other guardsmen from his unit while they were helping a wounded comrade. Jason graduated in 2002 with a degree in Math Education. He returned to his alma mater in 2004 to graduate with a master’s degree in Educational Technology. Jason was a scholarship recipient, was named to the Presidential Honors list and was awarded the Outstanding Student Leader by the College of Natural Sciences while a DSU student. He also worked as the Veterans Representative from 2001-2002, and was a graduate assistant while a masters student at DSU. Last year Jason was a high school math and computer teacher at Lake Benton Public School. He left that position this fall in response to being called up for active duty in Iraq. He lived in Tracy, MN with his wife, Teresa Timmerman. Teresa is a 2003 DSU grad.
