DSU Hosts South Dakota
InfraGard Chapter Meeting The Director of the National Center for Food Protection and Defense and the Director of the Office of Homeland Security in South Dakota will be featured speakers at the April meeting of the South Dakota InfraGard chapter. The meeting will be held on April 19 from 10am until noon in the Technology Classroom Building on the DSU campus. Dr. Frank Busta, Director of the National Center for Food Protection and Defense, will present a session entitled “Advancing the Security and Safety of the Nation’s Food Supply.” Dr. Busta is professor emeritus of food microbiology at the University of Minnesota. He has also been on faculty at North Carolina State University and the University of Florida. Dr. Busta is also chief technology advisor on a United Nations Development Programme project in China. He recently retired from the International Commission on the Microbiological Specifications for Food. John Berheim is the Director of the Office of Homeland Security and will be speaking on “Homeland Security in the Midwest”. Berheim spent nearly twenty-two years with the South Dakota Highway Patrol, working his way up to the rank of District Commander. The South Dakota Office of Homeland Security is responsible for the administration of the federal homeland security funds that are awarded to the state on an annual basis. Berheim’s oversight ensures that these funds are spent on anti-terrorism measures in accordance with federal guidelines and in the best interest of the state. The meeting of the South Dakota InfraGard chapter will bring together people from education, business, financial institutions, hospitals, and power and communications companies. Government entities such as the military, the various enforcement agencies and the public utilities will also be in attendance. The meeting is open to the public and free of charge.
