DSU Aids Hurricane Katrina
Victims Dakota State and the State Board of Regents are finding ways to aid the victims of hurricane Katrina. The South Dakota Board of Regents has agreed to set a special in-state tuition rate for out-of-state college students who are directly impacted by the hurricane and flood-related disasters in the Gulf Coast area. The in-state tuition rate for undergraduates of $76.35 per credit hour will be available to new students enrolling in South Dakota public universities whose education has been interrupted as a result of Hurricane Katrina and flood-related activity in the Gulf Coast region and to currently enrolled students who are impacted by this disaster. Find more information on the Board's action at http://www.ris.sdbor.edu/ The fall admission deadline has been extended to September 23rd for students from this area wishing to enroll in a South Dakota public university. Free residence hall space also will be offered to these students as space is available. Please contact DSU Registrar Sandy Anderson at 256-5144 for more information. Faculty and staff of Dakota State University have also been participating in various fundraisers to aid the victims of hurricane Katrina. The donations have been forwarded to the Lake/Kingsbury Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross. Last week, faculty and staff were invited to wear jeans on causal Friday if they made a donation to the hurricane relief fund. Over $1,600 was collected. The faculty and staff in the College of Business and Information Systems held an additional casual Friday fundraiser, with participants donating at least $10 to wear shorts on Friday. They were able to collect nearly $600. DSU residence halls Zimmermann and Higbie are hosting a barbecue to raise disaster relief funds. The barbecue is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be collected and donated to the Red Cross.
