DiverseCity Workshop Co-Hosted
by DSU Nationally known diversity consultant Lalitha Shastri will be featured at a workshop co-sponsored by Dakota State University Diversity Services and the Diversity Education Project of the Dakota Academy of Performing Arts. The workshop entitled DiverseCity; creating communities where diversity succeeds, will be held December 2-3 in the 3rd floor lobby at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls. 8am to 3:30pm on Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturday. Ms. Shastri is a educational consultant on diversity, mulitculturism, equity and justice. She is the creator of the “Parallax Principle,” a guide to creating and implementing a multicultural curriculum, which will be published in 2006. Shastri trains school leaders, faculty, students and parents on sustaining and empowering inclusive school cultures. She is also involved in human rights work in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The DiverseCity workshop will include discussions on race, socioeconomics, gender and other dimensions of identity. Issues of privilege, marginalization, oppression and bias will also be explored. A performance of “Where does it End?” by William Baldwin Young and the Dakota Academy of Performing Arts Plays for Living Theatre Company will also be presented. Continuing education credits are available for those who attend both days of the workshop. Workshop fee is $25 for college students, $45 for non-students, and $95 for individuals receiving CEU’s.
