Dakota State
University Names New Dean of College of Arts and
Natural Sciences

Dr. Kari Forbes-Boyte has been named the
Dean of the College of Arts and Natural Sciences.
Dr. Forbes-Boyte is currently serving as the Dean of
Behavioral and Social Sciences at Sacramento City
College in Sacrament, CA and will begin her duties
at Dakota State July 1, 2005. She will replace Dr.
Eric Johnson, who announced his retirement from DSU
effective June, 2005.
Dr. Forbes-Boyte received her Ph.D. at the
University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has held tenure
track positions at Emporia State University in
Kansas and Chadron State College in Nebraska. She
also has experience in research and grant writing
and has written numerous articles and academic
papers.
Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Cecelia
Wittmayer announced Dr. Forbes-Boyte’s appointment.
“We wish Dean Johnson well in his retirement and are
pleased that Dr. Kari Forbes-Boyte will be joining
us in that position. Throughout her interview, she
impressed the faculty and staff with her enthusiasm
for teaching and for research.”
Dr. Eric Johnson has the distinction of being the
first, and only Dean of the College of Liberal Arts
and became Dean of the College of Arts and Natural
Sciences in 2003 when the College of Liberal Arts
and the College of Natural Sciences were merged. He
has been at Dakota State since 1969.
