Dakota State University Names New Dean of College of Arts and Natural Sciences

Dr. Kari Forbes-Boyte has been named the Dean of the College of Arts and Natural Sciences. Dr. Forbes-Boyte is currently serving as the Dean of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Sacramento City College in Sacrament, CA and will begin her duties at Dakota State July 1, 2005. She will replace Dr. Eric Johnson, who announced his retirement from DSU effective June, 2005.

Dr. Forbes-Boyte received her Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has held tenure track positions at Emporia State University in Kansas and Chadron State College in Nebraska. She also has experience in research and grant writing and has written numerous articles and academic papers.

Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Cecelia Wittmayer announced Dr. Forbes-Boyte’s appointment. “We wish Dean Johnson well in his retirement and are pleased that Dr. Kari Forbes-Boyte will be joining us in that position. Throughout her interview, she impressed the faculty and staff with her enthusiasm for teaching and for research.”

Dr. Eric Johnson has the distinction of being the first, and only Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and became Dean of the College of Arts and Natural Sciences in 2003 when the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Natural Sciences were merged. He has been at Dakota State since 1969.
