Annual Wacipi at Madison
Armory on Saturday The office of Dakota State University Diversity Services will host the 8th annual Wacipi (powwow) on Saturday, April 16 in the Madison downtown armory. Registration for dancers and drums begins at 10am. A grand entry will begin each session of the powwow. The first session starts at noon, the second at 7pm. Admission is free. The event is designed to bring Native American dancing to a public who may not otherwise be exposed to traditional Indian dancing. This year the powwow will include a special cake walk dance. Attendees will be given the opportunity to buy a plate with a number on it. When the dance stops a number is drawn and the winner receives a cake. Cakes and other prizes are donated by DSU faculty and staff and community members. For more information contact the DSU Diversity Services office at 605-256-7347. |
