DSU Professor Has Work on Exhibit in Chicago

Alan Montgomery, assistant professor of Art at Dakota State University is included in an exhibition of contemporary art currently on display at the Betty Rymer Gallery of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work, which consists of four large paintings, is being displayed with a group of other artists from around the nation.

Alan Montgomery was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and lived for a time in England. He came to the United States in the mid 1970’s and has been at Dakota State University since 2000.

The exhibition, entitled YOUgenics, focuses on the current discourse surrounding genetic technologies and their social implications and history. Through the production of contemporary artists, the exhibition looks at a wide range of concerns that arise from these technologies. It also explores the concerns that are often left out of the dialogues.

The YOUgenics exhibit began its journey in Portland, OR and moved to Missouri before reaching Chicago in December. It will be at the gallery through February 25 and is slated to move on to England later in the year. The Chicago Art Institute is world renown and its Betty Rymer Gallery features the work of contemporary artists. More information on the exhibit is at http://www.yougenics.net/
