Vice President/Dean of Student Affairs Named at Dakota State
 University

Dakota State University announced the selection of Steven W. Shirley as Vice President/Dean of Student Affairs.  He replaces Terry Ryan, who retired in December 2003 after 28 years of service to Dakota State.

“I am very pleased that he has accepted DSU’s offer,” said DSU President Dr. Doug Knowlton, "and I know he will bring a lot of energy, enthusiasm and dedication to this position.”

Shirley was most recently at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, as an Assistant Professor of Marketing and the Director of Learning Abroad.  While at Crookston, he took two programs that promote student development, the Global Studies program and the Students In Free Enterprise program, and led them from non existence to premier programs on the campus. He also taught various business and marketing courses at Crookston.

“Steve’s past teaching positions in the business department at UMC and his knowledge of marketing will bring a link that will continue to promote the collaborative work of the campus,” commented Dr. Knowlton.

Shirley received his MBA from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, and is completing his doctorate program in Higher Education: Teaching and Learning at the same institution.  He will begin his duties at DSU in mid-August.
