Eight New Faculty Join Dakota State University

Eight new faculty members joined the faculty this fall at Dakota State University. Coming from all over the nation, they will help to lead the University's undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
DSU President Dr. Douglas Knowlton, said the university is pleased to welcome the new faculty members.

"We are very gratified that this exceptional group of faculty has chosen to join Dakota State University," Dr. Knowlton said. “We are confident that they will inspire our students and generate new knowledge that will enhance and expand the various course offerings at DSU.”

The new faculty are as follows:

  • Ursula Garrett, Assistant Professor of Special Education. Ms. Garrett is in the process of completing her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Oregon. She received an MA in Special Education from the University of Oregon and her BA in German from the University of Hawaii. Ursula comes to DSU from Eugene, Oregon, where she was an Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialist.
     

  • Steve Graham, Assistant Professor of Computer Science. Dr. Graham received his Ph.D in Computer Science, his BS in Computer Science and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Kansas. Steve comes to DSU from the University of Kansas where he was the Director of Information Systems and Research Computing for the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering.
     

  • Larry McDaniel, Associate Professor of Exercise Science. Dr. McDaniel received an Ed.D in Physical Education Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado. He earned an MS in Physical Education, Health and Recreation from the University of Minnesota, Moorehead, and a BS in Physical Education from the University of North Dakota. Before coming to DSU, Larry was an Associate Professor at Chadron State College in Nebraska.
     

  • Josh Pauli, Instructor of Information Systems. Mr. Pauli is in the process of completing his Ph.D. in Software Engineering from North Dakota State University. Josh received an MS in Information Systems and a BS in Computer Information Systems from Dakota State University. He was a graduate teaching assistant at NDSU prior to coming to DSU.
     

  • Scott Richardson, Instructor of English. Mr. Richardson received an MA in English from Emporia State University and a BS in Theology from Kentucky Christian College. Scott comes to DSU from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas.
     

  • Sandi Steinhoff-Muller, Instructor of Special Education. Ms. Steinhoff-Muller received an MA in Educational Leadership from Southwest State University in Marshall, MN and a BS in Elementary and Special Education from Dakota State University. She had been a high school special education teacher in Pipestone, MN.
     

  • Carson Walch, Instructor and Offensive Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning Coach. Mr. Walch received an MS in Education and a BS in Elementary Education from Winona State University in Winona, MN. He had been working at the Madison Community Center and as assistant football coach for DSU.
     

  • Gerice Olson, Head Softball Coach, Assistant Volleyball coach.  Ms. Olson received her MS in Health Physical Education and Recreation from South Dakota State University and her BS in Physical Education from North Dakota State University.  In addition to her coaching duties, Gerice will be teaching for the College of Education.
