DSU
receives federal funding for technology Senators Tim Johnson and Tom Daschle recently announced that Dakota State University will receive $900,000 from the Fiscal Year 2003 omnibus appropriations bill. DSU President Jerald Tunheim said the funding would be used to purchase more up-to-date technology for the Technology Classroom Center currently under construction. “When designing a building, you design it for what you would like in the ideal situation to make it the best; then, you usually cut it down to what you can afford,” Tunheim said. “This will allow us to make the building what we want and be the best available.” The $2.5 million renovation project is transforming the former Performing Arts Center into a state-of-the-art Technology Classroom Center. Completion of construction is anticipated by the end of August. “Our education projects ensure that our schools are doing the best they can to educate the future leaders of tomorrow,” said Johnson. “Healthcare
and education are two top concerns for rural states like South
Dakota,” said Daschle. “This
funding is a good start towards our goal of making sure all South
Dakotans have access to healthcare and a quality education.” (end)
