DSU professor serves as discussant in Chicago
Dakota State University Assistant professor of Business and Information Systems, Dan Talley, recently attended the Midwest Economic Association's annual meeting in Chicago, IL over Spring Break. “The event provided an opportunity to attend conferences and workshops to learn about teaching techniques from some of the best economics faculty in the country,” said Talley. Over 80 professional economists from across the country were in attendance for the three-day conference. Talley was asked to attend the conference by Dr. Kim Sosin of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, to be a discussant for an undergraduate's honor thesis on the U.S. Sugar Protection program and its economic impact on the U.S. economy, composed by a student at Illinois State University. “The paper did an expert summary of the issues and did one of the best jobs of describing the background of the sugar quota and tariff system and the impact of NAFTA and Mexico on the U.S market for raw sugar,” recalled Talley. Talley made recommendations to the student about the paper to help improve it so that it could be published in an undergraduate economic research journal. |
