DSU names Droge as Acting Dean for College of Natural Sciences

Madison, SD  --  Dr. Dale Droge, associate professor at Dakota State University, has been named acting dean for the College of Natural Sciences. Droge will be succeeding Dr. Philip Sandberg who recently announced his retirement. The one-year appointment will begin July 1st.

“We are pleased that Dr. Droge has agreed to be Acting Dean and welcome his expertise while he heads the College of Natural Sciences,” said Dr. Jerald Tunheim, President at DSU.

Dr. Droge has been with the University since 1992 and brings a vast knowledge-base to the college.  Currently, he teaches courses in biology and is President of the General Faculty.

“I have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Droge in his leadership role for the faculty for the last several years, and I am confident in his ability to lead the College of Natural Sciences,” said Dr. Cecelia Wittmayer, Academic Vice President at DSU.

The College of Natural Sciences offers a variety of degree programs including Biology for Information Systems, Mathematics for Information Systems, Physical Science, and Respiratory Care. Biology, Mathematics, and Physical Science degrees in Education are offered as well.

“I am sorry to reduce my time in the classroom, but I am also excited about the possibilities the role of Acting Dean provides for me,” said Droge.

Dr. Droge and his wife, Ginny, reside in Madison with their three children.

The University plans to conduct a national search during Droge’s one-year appointment.
