DSU Office of Diversity presents author Dr. AC Ross

The Dakota State University Office of Diversity Services presents Internationally renowned author, Dr. AC Ross.

Ross, the author of “Mitakuye Oyasin: We are all Related” and “Crazy Horse: Real Reasons of Little Big Horn,” will be speaking in the Trojan Center on the DSU campus Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at 6:30pm as part of Native American Heritage Month.

“To have Dr. Ross support the Diversity Office and the quality of our efforts, validates what we’re doing here at DSU,” Scott Zlotak, DSU Diversity Coordinator said.

Dr. Ross will speak about the Native American tradition of dreams and dream societies. According to Dr. Ross, “We used to have dreaming societies. These societies, Bear, Elk, Buffalo and Thunder would provide guidance to the people regarding politics, economics and societal structures. These societies were our psychologists, school counselors, therapists and lawyers all rolled into one.”

“Dr. Ross is a teacher,” said Steve Martin, DSU Native American Advisor. “He is an educator of his way of life. He provides an opportunity for all people to have knowledge about the Native American way of life.”

Dr. Ross will have his best selling books for sale and a book signing will be available. The presentation is co-sponsored by the South Dakota Humanities Council, All Indian nations and the DSU Office of Diversity Services.

“Dr. Ross is a very open individual,” added Martin. “He has no problem sharing his knowledge. He is a tremendous, tremendous role model.”
