Bishop resigns from DSU College of Ed
Dakota State University professor of Education, Dr. Joe Bishop has submitted his letter of resignation from Dakota State University and the College of Education, effective at the end of the semester. Bishop has taken a similar position at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. According to Bishop, Eastern Michigan University is one of the largest producers of teachers in the nation, with over 100 faculty members in the College of Education. “It will be a big change from here numbers wise,” said Bishop, referring to the size of the University and the College of Education. Bishop’s teaching will be more focused and concentrated into one area. He will teach three sections of “Schools in a Multicultural Society.” While here, Bishop taught several different courses in education and social studies. “When I think about leaving, it’s kind of sad,” reflected Bishop. “I’m going to miss the friendliness and smallness of the campus most. This has been a good place to work. We have great students and there is a lot of great things happening here.” Bishop started at DSU in the Fall of 1999, teaching Introduction to Computers, Foundations of American Education Elementary/Middle School Social Studies and Logo. He has also taught Secondary Social Studies Methods. He recently took a trip to the Slovak Republic to research Education Reform there. He came to Dakota State from the University of Iowa. Bishop and his wife Nola, who teaches at the Oldham-Ramona Colony School, will move together with their four children, Kaia, Courtney, Jimmy, and Katie. |
